Back in 2017 I was inspired to start a podcast, and I felt very animated and passionate about it. So I learned about equipment, bought my microphones and other gear, and when I got everything… I was stuck! What would the podcast be about? How would I find content consistently? I only knew it would be around personal development, but nothing more specific. So a few months went by without anything happening…
👥 At that time I was a member of a mastermind group, and one of the other members was Paul Greig Smith. Once, while me and Paul were talking passionately about personal development, another member, Luke, turned around and said “you two sound very entertaining when you talk about this, why don’t you do a podcast?”
That was the conception of “Personal development essentials” podcast, with me and Paul as co-hosts, and in September 2018 we launched! Fast forward to today, and we are at episode #73, with downloads in 80 different countries! I’ve written a blog post about my experience on launching that podcast, you can read it here.
Most of the episodes were me and Paul deep-diving and discussing a specific topic on personal development. We covered topics such as growth mindset, goal setting, daily routines, procrastination, meditation, internal dialogue, the power of intention, and many more.
🎙 Some of the episodes were different, though: it was me interviewing intriguing people, asking them about their own personal development journey, about their own insights, trials & tribulations, having them share their knowledge and experiences.
A year and a half has passed since, and I have interviewed over 30 exceptional people. I found myself really enjoying not only the actual interview, but also the preparation – researching, finding out about the person I’d interview, getting to know about them beforehand. As a matter of fact, I developed a flair for that!
🤔 However, as “Personal development essentials” podcast became a mixture of co-hosts’ discussions and interviews, the original idea behind it was diluted. The mission was, and still is, for me and Paul to talk about our own personal development experiences as two guys in our forties, in a race against time to figure things out in our own lives, trying to grow and help others as we go.
The solution to this dilemma came to me as an inspiration: to create a second podcast, one that will feature just the interviews, and leave the format of the original podcast as it was intended to be.
This was the conception of my second podcast, “Personal Development Mastery”, which took me a few months in planning. And this brings us to the time when I’m writing this (February 2020), with the podcast successfully having launched!
