#personaldevelopmentessentials

In the beginning

I am delighted and excited to have my podcast up and running on iTunes, with 13 episodes published at the time of writing. In this post I’d like to share with you the why, the how, and most importantly the lessons I’ve learned!

I have wanted to start a podcast for over a year ago, when I attended an event in Peterborough. On stage there was an exceptional individual, Rob Moore, who inspired me to start my own podcast.

Immediately after I felt very animated and passionate. I learned about the equipment, got microphones from eBay, and when everything was ready to start recording… I got stuck! What would the podcast be about? I only knew vaguely that it would be around personal development, but nothing more specific.

The Mastermind

At that time I was a member of a mastermind group, and one of the other members was Paul Greig Smith. On one occasion, while me and Paul were talking passionately about personal development, another member, Luke, turned to us and said “you guys sound very entertaining when you talk about these things, why don’t you do a podcast about it?”.

That was the conception of “Personal development essentials” podcast, with me and Paul as co-hosts!

The preparation

I found creating content was fun, and I quickly learned about the technical aspects of podcasting. These were easy! What I found difficult though, was promoting the podcast: to make it known before the launch date of September. It was probably my first serious attempt at marketing something, and it felt like hard work at times! But I also had great fun along the way, like when I did this mural!

Paul wrote this eloquent description of our mission:

Whilst we live in an unprecedented golden age of opportunity and potential, most people are still caught up in daily struggles of survival, too busy dealing with and contending with reality and simply trying to survive, rather than consciously creating the dream lives they have in mind.

.

At no point in history have we had so much information at our fingertips. Information alone however is not power; it must be applied in the right order and sequence for it to bring about any real change.

.

So how do you transcend the trials and tribulations of your own life? Through personal development. By acknowledging the gap between where you are and where you want to be. And by devising strategies to help you on your life’s journey to live the life you have envisioned for yourself.

.

Me and my good friend and fellow podcaster are just two guys in our forties in a race against time to figure things out in our own lives. We are just trying to grow and help others as we go.

.

Whatever your beliefs, it’s human nature that we all act in accordance with them. But what if you could transcend the limitations of your own personality, the biological barriers of belief that have kept you locked in repeating habit loops all your life?

.

The world is waking up to its potential and it all starts with sharing knowledge. However, that’s just the first step. The next step is action: putting things into practice, for that’s where the real learning and progress lies.

.

We’re just two guys on a mission…. We discuss all the essentials of personal development, everything from having a growth mindset to goal setting, fitness, health, meditation, peak performance strategies, tools, tips, tactics and more.

.

So, whether you wish to listen to this in your car, on the tube, whilst preparing dinner tonight – check it out – you’re in for a treat.

What I’ve learned

I believe the creation of this podcast is a perfect example of how an inspired idea can manifest in our lives, if we follow our enthusiasm and take action! I encourage you to see in your lives what it is that inspires you, that fills you with enthusiasm, that you are passionate about. And then, take action and pursue it, while having the belief that it is going to manifest!

I invite you to have a listen to our podcast, and I truly wish that you find it both valuable and entertaining!
